The good way for education to (really) work : my dreamt educational system

No matter where we live in the world, Education's always been a subject of debate. Some countries made Education a priority, some of them put it in the background. Countries from all over the world are very different in their way to manage their educational system.

For example, I am french and I have always been a pupil (student now) in France. And I can ensure you that France is not the greatest when it's about Education... When you, American or British, Irish extol excellence, elitism, sports practice and rigor, we, French, are late compared to you ! We have too light curricula and pupils need more surrounding to success.

But I am NOT saying that your educational system is way better than ours... I don't know it very well so I am not going to venture myself saying foolery. But without any doubt, your educational system's got its own issues.

In fact, in my opinion,

each country's got problems with its educational system

That's why I decided to create this article. I listed below the five keys each country in the world need to get, I think, for a better educational system :

  • Let children work more together

Basically, I think we don't teach children to work together early enough. In High school (and sometimes in middle school), pupils have to realise projects in pairs or in group. It's a great way to prepare them for advanced studies and for their future professionnal life.

But it's also and above all, a fantastic way for them to create link with other children in class. They learn to be respectful, tolerant and they learn from other children too.

It maybe seems to be trivial but I do believe it is one very good reason to develop work groups at school from an early age. Every child has much to gain as a person.

  • Instaure ludic culture at school

Ludic culture is related to hobby and entertainment. Then basically, a ludic approach is funny and distracting and brings along pleasure and a sense of freedom.

Playing and learning are closely related in early childhood. Indeed, playing is the first and main activity of childhood. It's the natural way for children to learn by themselves and bloom. Playing develops their imagination and possibilities, they're coping with real cases. To sum up it all, it's one of the best and most natural way for them to learn.

We should instaure it more at school and do not stop it too soon ! Because it's also a way for children to escape from conditioning. A way to make them different and unique.

  • Believe in « secondary » school subjects (sports and arts)

When I am talking about « secondary » school subjects, I mean actually Sports and Arts.

Sports and arts are in fact very often considered as secondary at school (do not say you never thought this). Less hours in the school timetable, sometimes less investment from children thinking it's not important,...

It is a pity because I do really believe that sports and arts are actually a HUGE part of a child education and development. Just like ludic culture and playing, sports and arts don't enter into the mold in their way of learning. Yet, it brings kids confidence, freedom and creativity.

Eventually, these subjects federate links between children because they have beautiful life values.

  • A bilingual education from an early age

I have ALWAYS thought that a bilingual education from an early age at school is REALLY important ! There are several good reasons to it.

If we instaure bilingual education from preschool, children will gain significant benefits for their future. First they'll be able to travel without any language difficulty, they'll maybe be able to understand the foreign cultures in a different way and surely more easily. Thereby they might develop an open mind, be more tolerant and outgoing. Besides it'll be easier for them to create relationship with people from another culture or another country.

Finally I think it's a big deal to give a child the opportunity to get a bilingual education because they'll be able to work internationally and it's also a good thing to display on their resume !

  • Do not be against new technologies

Increasingly in schools, we find screens, computers and tablets used as educational tools. We notice that lots of parents are against it judging children are too young to be exposed to screens everyday, even at school.

But let me remind you that new technologies are future and you can't go against progress. Tomorrow, we'll use technology at its fullest everywhere (well, it's already the case at some places) and children need to learn to use it from school to be experts afterwards at work. Because yes, it represents the way our children will work, they need to get the basics from an early age.

Besides new technologies do not have only bad sides : nowadays, tons of ludic games are developed for children and for their education.
